Review: Medicinal Herbs of Western Canada by Brenda Jones
A non-fiction review by Shawna J. Butler
This manual is a fully illustrated guide to healing herbs found in the backyards of Western Canada, from the bestselling author/illustrator of Medicinal Herbs of Eastern Canada.
Medicinal Herbs of Western Canada offer a glimpse into the intricate tapestry of nature's pharmacy. This all-encompassing manual with beautifully drawn pictures from the author. This manual extends an invitation to readers to embark on a captivating expedition through the herbs of Western Canada, where an extensive variety of medicinal botanicals thrive amidst the untamed wilderness.
Jones has compiled this beautiful, illustrated catalogue of healing herbs to help readers familiarize themselves with the medicines available in their backyards. Covering 78 different plants, each with detailed, full-colour illustrations and accessible tips, facts, and recipes. This essential guide makes it easy to benefit from your neighbourhood’s wild offerings. Includes a glossary of terms and a section on how to identify common poisonous plants and what to do if you encounter them.
This manual is a great way to get outside and discover what planets and herbs are in your backyard. It’s also a wonderful way to teach younger children about nature and how to use a manual to help them learn about the plants in their area. This manual is the kind of book you’ll keep handy and will teach over and over as the years pass. Since receiving this manual I’ve gone and bought her first book, Medicinal Herbs of Eastern Canada.
